The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities awarded $4 million grant to Garden State Offshore Energy to develop a 345.6 MW offshore wind facility. The wind farm is proposed to be constructed 16 miles southeast of Atlantic City coastline.
The New York Times reports that 96 turbines will be constructed at a cost of $1 billion with the state awarding as much as $19 million in grants. The BPU press release indicated that construction will begin in 2010 and the facility would produce enough electricity to power approximately 125,000 homes annually.
