Project Information The bridge over Cheesequake Creek on Route 35 was originally built in 1942. The existing bridge is a bascule draw bridge facilitating the movement of sailboats from inland to the Raritan Bay. The bridge structure is 712 feet long with Average Daily Traffic of 35,000 vehicles. The bridge is considered structurally deficient with outdated fender system, mechanical, electrical and structural systems. The rolling roadway barriers protecting the traffic heading to the bascule span also needs replacement. The construction project is undertaking the following improvements - • Replace and/or strengthen deteriorated structural steel members • Clean and paint structural steel • Reconstruct deck including eliminating some expansion joints and providing new joints at remaining locations • Patch spalls and seal cracks in concrete piers • Repair fender system • Repair operator houses and machinery rooms. • Upgrade electrical control system • Replace barrier gates, warning gates and safety devices • Rehabilitate or replace various electrical and mechanical components • Upgrade bridge railings and approach guiderails to meet current standards • Improvements to the settled approach roadways and drainage improvements in the immediate vicinity of the bridge • Retrofit for seismic resistance and replace bearings • Construct scour countermeasures Contractor Client Agate Construction New Jersey Department of Transportation 1030 Route 83 1035 Parkway Avenue Clermont, NJ 08210 Trenton, NJ Bid Price Agate Construction Inc $ 25,493,808.28 Anselmi & Decicco Inc $ 26,823,193.50 IEW Construction Group Inc $ 26,918,673.87 Schedule The project will be undertaken in 5 Stages.
